Stage 1
A sediment pre-filter with a 5-micron rating efficiently captures rust and debris from water sources. Its design prevents these larger particles from causing clogs or damage to plumbing and appliances. Replace the pre filter inside the blue housing every 8-10 months.

2. Mineral Transformation As water flows through the Filtersmart system, it passes over the TAC media. This media is embedded with tiny, specialized "templates" that attract hardness minerals, specifically calcium and magnesium, which are the primary causes of scale buildup. When calcium and magnesium ions come into contact with the TAC media, they are converted into microscopic crystals. These crystals are formed directly on the media surface. Importantly, this process doesn't remove the minerals from the water but changes their structure.
3. Formation of Stable Crystals
The microscopic crystals that form are stable and remain suspended in the water. Because of their new shape and structure, these crystals can no longer bond to surfaces like pipes, water heaters, or faucets, which is how limescale typically forms.
As the water continues to flow through your plumbing system, the suspended crystals travel along with it. Since they are unable to adhere to surfaces, they effectively prevent scale from forming in your pipes and on your appliances.
